Kuda-puli is a small sour fruit and is highly praised in Ayurveda and folk medicine for its excellent anti-colic action. For any problems related to colon, the large intestine, this is a great medicine. It is also a powerful anti-spasmodic, preventing spasms in intestines. This is also good for inflammatory bowel  diseases. This is often used in the states of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh in India. Available in Indian stores. Use this daily for at least 41 days in the form of soup or chutney. It is extremely sour so use coconut or almonds to lessen the sourness. The picture below is the dried form of kuda-puli.

Kudampuli is a dark greenish-brown colour fruit rind familiar to almost all Keralites. It is mainly used in Fish curries to provide sour taste to the curry.

This is the fruit of Gambooge tree and the fruit is the size of a large tomato. It is pale yellowish in color. It has a gummy seed inside which tastes sweet and sour.

Kudampuli is achieved by continuously drying the fruit of Gambooge tree. As explained earlier the seed is thrown out and the rind is dried in the sun. It takes several sunny days to finally achieve what is called Kudampuli.
